John Turnbull
Funeral services for John Turnbull, sr., veteran Maple Hill blacksmith, were held Monday at the old stone church west of Maple Hill. He died Saturday night at the home of his son Adam Turnbull. Other sons are John Turnbull, jr., of Maple Hill, and Walter Turnbull sr., of Eskridge. A daughter, Mrs. J. E. Romick, of Maple Hill, twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive him.

Born in 1845 in Scotland, he entered his apprenticeship the year the Civil War began. He brought his family to Kansas fifty years ago, locating at Maple Hill in 1887. He retired in 1932, after seventy-one years of activity at his trade except for a few years in the war period in which he engaged in farming. He scarcely had experienced sickness until a fall this spring on the street of Rossville disabled him.
