Leroy E. Carrell
SILVER LAKE- Leroy E. Carrell, 67, died Friday, February 27, 2009 At the Topeka V.A. Hospital.
He was born January 20, 1942 at Rossville, the son of the late Clayton W. and Alverta Lemon Carrell. Leroy grew up in the Rossville community and graduated from Rossville High School in 1959. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He lived in the Rossville community all of his life until moving to Silver Lake in 2007.
Mr. Carrell was a truck driver and had worked for Hill's Pet Food and later for Watkins Motor Lines. He was a member of the Rossville Christian Church and Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion at Rossville. He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge and the Moose Lodge.
On August 3, 1996 he was united in marriage to Janet Killinger at Silver Lake. She survives of the home. He is also survived by a son, Todd (Tammy) Holmes, Silver Lake and by three grand¬children, Jaiden, Karley and Garrett.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. Interment will be in the Rossville Cemetery where Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 will conduct military graveside services. Mr. Carrell will lie in state after 4:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Piper Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville Christian Church or to Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion and sent in care of the funeral home.
