Mrs. Bess M. Conley, 86, Delia, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 1989, at a Topeka hospital.
Mrs. Conley was a teacher at Rossville High School from 1926 to 1931 and High Prairie Grade School in Jackson County from 1952 to 1953.
She was born Nov. 13, 1902, in Chase County, the daughter of Joseph H. and Ulamae Schribner Mercer. She was graduated from Topeka High school and Washburn University.
Mrs. Conley was a member of Rossville United Methodist Church, Rossville Literary Club and was past president of Delia Extension Homemakers’ Unit. She also was a 50-year member, past district aide and past worthy matron of Amaryl¬lis Chapter No. 321 of Order of Eastern Star at Rossville. Mrs. Conley was active in the Rossville Rustlers 4-H Club.
She was married to James L. Conley July 29, 1931, at Topeka. He survives.
Other survivors include a son, Joe M. Conley, Delia; three grand¬children; and a great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Rossville United Methodist Church in Rossville. Cremation is planned. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Topeka. Verschelden Funeral Home at St. Marys is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Rossville United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
